2008 Winter Carnival of Magic
Thursday Night

The Winter Carnival of Magic kicked off at 7:00pm on Thursday with the second Magical History and Mystery lecture by Bill Spooner. Spooner gave his first lecture on the magic wand at the Winter Carnival a few years ago. This year Spooner gave a nice presentation on one of the oldest magical apparatus in recorded history, the Lota. Spooner said that magicians define the Lota as any vessle that has the appearance of being inexhaustable. He had several slides with different pictures of Lota and gave a brief history of his personal research of the Lota.

After Spooner's lecture, the Magic continued with the second Hocus in Focus Magic Auction. Over 100 items were auctioned off this year and the proceeds go to the IBM Endowment Fund.
