Winter Carnival of Magic Contest Information

One of the greatest opportunity for magicians at Winter Carnival of Magic is the ability to compete in the stage and close-up competitions. In addition to the chance to win a trophy, contestants gain valuable experience performing and benefit from feedback received from the contest judges.

Judges

For both the close up and stage competitions, the judges will rate on multiple criteria. Rating sheets will be used as a guide by the judges in selecting the winners. Scores on the rating sheets alone will not determine the winners. Judges are neither members of Ring58 nor compensated for judging the contest. While judges may make themselves available to discuss their comments on a contestant's act, it is prohibited to confront a judge. A judge's opinion is simply that: an opinion. It is their attempt to help contestants improve.

Prizes

Awards will be given to first and second place winners in the close up contest, the adult stage contest and the youth stage contest provided that there are four or more contestants in the competition. If there are only two contestants, no prizes will be awarded. If there are only three contestants, only first place will be awarded. Following the announcement of the winners, the scoring sheets will be available for the contestants to take home.

  • The stage competition will be divided into youth (10-17) and adult (18+) competitors. Although both will perform at the same time, they will not be competing against each other.
  • Performers are responsible for providing any music on CD or Cassette.
  • No special lighting arrangements will be made.
  • Prior permission is required for ALL fire effects.
  • Contestants will be entered on a first-come-first-served basis.
